Peugeot to AX15 swap ?s

87YJ 4.2, Peugeot tranny, to mid 90s AX15 YJ tranny.

Tell me if I have this correct. To swap a Peugeot tranny to AX15 you will need to change the transfer input shaft to a 23 spline. What about the bellhousing and clutch, don't they just swap and bolt up. I am trying to help a friend with this and found a guy selling an AX15 w/ bellhousing, hydraulic throwout, and a 23spline transfer input. This sounded like just about everything he would need for the swap, I'm just rying to be sure. Thanks.

Re: Peugeot to AX15 swap ?s

There are 2 versions of the AX-15 bellhousing. One is an external and one is an internal slave cylinder design. The external design is much more durable(in this application, the internal is more durable in general b/c it is protected by the bellhousing, but not in this case) and easier to adjust. You might as well get the better of the 2 designs while you are at it. The Peugot uses the internal design, just like the early AX-15. Look for the TJ and late YJ AX-15 for this bellhousing.

I think there is a problem with the pilot bushing too. I have heard of people having to get them machined to fit. Try searching previous posts for more information.
