Do-it-yourself r/p swap...

Well, I got the estimate the other day on a gear swap for my 85CJ [2.73>>3.73]. Let's just say I'll be doing it myself...ahem.

The AMC manual has some pretty decent info on this and I was wondering if there are any other reliable surces to tap into out there? I guess one thing that is challenging me right now is putting together a tool inventory. AMC "recommends" a whole slew of tools, most of which I'm sure I can by without.

Any tips, advice, etc that anyone can lend would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Chris, there was a whole thread last week or so on this subject, you might check it out. At a minimum you will need a good dial indicator and magnetic stand, a good micrometer, and a good torque wrench that reads up to about 100 ft./lbs. Good luck and have fun.

I started that thread last week. I can tell you everything you need to know including what tools are necessary. I can even tell you who has the best prices. I swapped from 2.73 to 4.10 and installed a rear detroit locker. I actually haven't done the front axle yet but the rear is complete and I am back on the road. I will tackle the front the next time I have a couple of days off. I am serious about helping you out. You can send me an e-mail and I will give you all of the websites I used and any other info that would help.
