How much space between fan and radiator on 258??

I was curious how much space you guys have between the fan and radiator on your 258. I've had to bend the blades
back so that my radiator doesnt' get a shave. I've already had to repair the radiator due to minor extraction difficulities!

Thanks

Alec

Re: How much space between fan and radiator on 258??

Alec-
Most of the time the fan starts eating the radiator when either (the wrong type) a 3 core radiator is installed and/or your motor mounts are shot (too soft).
You should be able to get your thumb between the two (not while running) 1/2" +

Re: How much space between fan and radiator on 258??

After I was hit by that drunk driver...the shop I took my Jeep to installed a 3 row modine radiator...I also have had
on going motor mount problems...I cant' seem to keep the left one together for more then a few minutes...I'll be putting on
a set of those MORE mounts soon...My fan hits the radiator when I'm 4wd and I turn the steering wheel...Replacing radiators
isn't cheap!

Thanks JAF

Re: How much space between fan and radiator on 258??

I had the same problem after installing a three core radiator . I searched the junk yards until I found a shorter fan spacer that gave me good clearance from the radiator and my other belt pulleys . I am running the stock four blade fan . If you can not find a shorter fan spacer you could shave yours off a bit at a machine shop . Hope this helps , ken

Re: How much space between fan and radiator on 258??

Alec, I just went thru the exact same mod. my radiator was shot and replaced with a 3 row, well i didn't realize there was so little room for expansion in there.
the choices were search for a shorter shaft or move the radiator. i moved the radiator to the front of the grill/bracket and have plenty of room now. plus it's FREE!!
just pull off the grill and make a small bend at the bottom of the grill so you can slide the grill back on allowing for more room between the fan and the core. install the bolts from the other direction after you move the retainers to the radiator and VIOLA (sp)!!
you got it!
i hope this still works with the glass front end, let us know

by the way, this idea came from this board! thanks again guys/gals
