401 HEADS

401 HEADS ON A 304,HAS ANYBODY DONE THIS? I AM CHECKING FOR A FRIEND OF MINE THAT IS TRYING TO GET HIS CJ RUNNING. DOES 401 HEADS HAVE L-SHAPED PORTS?
THE MOTOR USED TO RUN ALONG TIME AGO,BUT HAS NOT BEEN STARTED IN 7 YEARS. I KNOW IT IS PROBABLY A WASTE OF GOOD HEADS, BUT THAT IS WHAT IS ON IT RIGHT NOW. TIA

IF I BUY ANYMORE TOYS,I'M A DEAD MAN!!!!!!!!!

Re: 401 HEADS

i have 401 heads on my 304. my 304 was also bored .040 over and balanced. it has turned over 6000 rpm with no problems. the ports are indeed "L" shaped.. this gives the engine that sweet AMC rumble. 304 heads also have "L" shaped heads though.. the 401 and larger 360 heads are the same(360's had 2 types of heads)

Re: 401 HEADS

eh eh BOOTS1 I CANT HEAR YA eh eh.

Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

So Elusive, how exactly (ok roughly) would putting 401 heads on a 304 help? gas milage, horespower or torque.

I would like to beef up mine, but I really don't want to sacrifice everyday drivability.

Any ways thanks in advance.
