Waggie Waggie Waggie, that's all I hear. I've got a set of what appear to be D44's from a '73-'74 Cherokee, actually I have the whole vehicle minus the carb, I took $250 off this guys bill in exchange and I wasn't going to get paid any way so it cost me nothing, are they going to work as well as the Waggies? Of course I have to clean them up, probable narrow them some, do a SOA, lockers, new ring and pinion, be sure the caster and pinion angle is correct, put in a high steering setup, figure out how to switch back to 5 by 51/2 from 6 lug without lossing the flat top knuckles, etc. etc. That's either alot of time which is in VERY short supply or alot of money. It's going to be some bucks any. The goal is to make my jeep stronger, more stable and more reliable. So what about those Cherokee axels????

im not sure 73-74FSJs had disk brakes int eh front or dana 44 fronts thats right arount he time they were starting to use them

if its a narrow track cherokee thye are basically just like waggie axles, if its a wide track ( fender flares) then they are basically J truck axles and will need to be narrowed if you want any tires actually under hte fenders
the wag axles dont need to be narrowed, thats why they are the more popular swap.

why would you want to convert front and rar to 5 on 5.5? just buy some new wheels and leave htem 6 lug!

I don't think the fenders are flaired and the wheels I have now have sentimental value.

if the cherokee is a 2 door, you will have the wider axles. if it is a 4 door, it is the same as the wagoneer axles

i beg to differ about the axles i own an 83 two door cheerokee that is not the wide axle it has no flairs and it is narrow just like the waggie but the drop is on the drivers side the jeep also came from the factory with a 258 six a t176 4spd and locking hubs way different than any other cheerokee i have ever seen

is the sentimental value of hte wheels worth the $$$$ your going to have tp spend to convert it to 5 on 5.5?

I think youd be better off swappinbg to scout axles if your dead set on 5/5.5 lugs.

you could easily sell the narrow wag axles for enough cash for some scout units and be ahead time wise
