cooked my 435 yesterday

Built a towbar. Wanted to see how it was gonna pull.Put d-300 in N, we were just going to get it out on the highway and then turn around. Well it was pulling so good I told my buddy to take it on to town (4-Miles) and leave it. Long story short we had about another 1/2 mile to go! I am going to start taking it out when I get through telling yall this. I am glad I never sold my extra 435. What do yalll think messed up in the trans, It won`t shift.

Re: cooked my 435 yesterday

I can't see any connection to towing 4 mi. and the tranny not shifting, I'd look it over first.

If the transfercase was in neutral, then the tranny should have been disconnected. I can't see anything happening to your tranny. Must be something funny going on.... have a good look before you pull your tranny out!!

Hope the jeep gods are with you....

Re: cooked my 435 yesterday

Took the trans. out. The gears on the output shaft are ruined. A-A output shaft needs machining, hopefully just cleaning up. It seams like just a bad dream. I wonder how much a new shaft would cost from advanced adapters.

Re: cooked my 435 yesterday

It sounds like you didn't have the trans is gear while you were towing. The way to do it is to put the transfer case in neutral and the trans in gear. This will keep the transmission output shaft from turning without oil. Even with the transfer case in neutral, there is a little frictional drag that will turn the transmission output shaft if the transmission is in neutral too.

Those must be "Texas miles" you pulled that thing... I have flat towed 500 mi. with a 465
