Dana 35 Weak Link???

I have a 2000 jeep TJ 6cyl 3-spd auto with a Dana 35 w/ trac-loc and ABS brakes. I plan on running 33 or possibly 35” tires and heard that the Dana 35 is very weak. I would like to know if it is possible to beef up the D35 given a LIMITED budget? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks to all.

Bill

Re: Dana 35 Weak Link???

the strength of the 35 depends on what you do to the jeep if you put lower gears or make more horsepower than you might break it but just lifting the jeep to fit bigger tires shouldnt hurt it unless you go wheeling like rambo just drive it sanely and service it regularly and you should be ok

jeep the first 4 wheel drive the only 4 wheel drive

Re: Dana 35 Weak Link???

I suggest you talk with Jeff (H8Monday) about all the money he put into his stockers until he finally just threw em away and upgraded. The 35 will NOT hold up to SERIOUS (not Rambo, just serious) wheeling, no matter how much moneh you throw at it. Your front 30 will actually hold up a little better, but neither is made for anything serious, no matter what you do, Super 35, full floater, etc. There have been plenty of people around here that have also gone that route, and been a lot poorer and with busted parts.

Re: Dana 35 Weak Link???

I have 35's and have added some horsepower and my spider gears mangled after about 1 year of mostly street driving. I go off-road about once a month, so i would be ready to upgrade if i were you. I bought the super 35 kit from superior axle. I went wheelin yesterday with a bunch of lifted trucks, mostly dodges, and saw one busted axle, busted tranny case, busted cv, and i was making it through stuff none of them could and mine held up good. This was the first real test on it though.

Re: Dana 35 Weak Link???

Swap it out. If you go the really cheep route you could just chop your brackets off your old axles and throw a d44 or 60 under you jeep. If you have $300 for the rear axle brackets from rubicon express that better than stock and work with almost any beefe rear axle. Swap it out, also another option is the factory d44 in some tj's.
