I\'m getting two different answers on gears

I just purchased a pair of axles from a 97 Wrangler (Dana 30 and 35) for the purpose of swapping out the gears. I'm getting two answers as to if the gears out of the 30 will indeed swap out. Either way it goes, I got a good deal on them and I'm pretty sure that I can still use the gears out of the 35. Can ya gimmie some help.

I may not like what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Re: I\'m getting two different answers on gears

No they won't. The TJ axle is a standard cut and the YJ axle is reverse cut.

That sucks. Well I guess I have a front Dana 30 from a 1997 Wrangler with 4.ll gears for sale. Anybody want one? The calipers look brand new too.

Re: I\'m getting two different answers on gears

I can understand your confusion. The tech section of this very board has conflicting info.....and I even verified it with the guy who does the page. In the table is says that the TJ has a reverse cut D30 ......but in the written text it says something like ".....but unfortunately the reverse cut is not in a TJ" . I pointed this out to the guy and he stood by the table that says that the TJ is a reverse cut.
See for yourselfhttp://www.off-road.com/jeep/swb/articles/specgrid.htm this is the spec table. Now in the text part of the thingie it states, like I said, that the reverse cut didn't make it to the TJ......but in the same section it states that the YJ AND the TJ have the vac operated hubs......which is not true as well.

Re: I\'m getting two different answers on gears

Can you swap the entire axle? Would take some cutting and welding on the suspension, but the TJ 30 is a much better axle than the YJ 30. Someone else will have to address the issue of vacuum vs the TJ method of disconnecting the front wheel drive. Might not be workable, but at least it is worth asking about. Costs nothing to ask.

Re: I\'m getting two different answers on gears

Are any of the parts of the TJ axle useful to my YJ axle? I don't believe I will be cutting the thing apart just to save some money on gears. Like I said I got a real good deal on the pair, what I paid for the pair was less than what it would cost for ONE set of gears, unfortunatly I didn't do my research before hand. Even still I got a complete rear axle with the 4.ll gears just waiting for her matching set to come along. As I understand it the TJ Dana 35 will work on my YJ. Correct me if I'm wrong.
