Never brag on your jeep...

I was just telling someone the other day that I hardly ever have any problems with my jeep that leaves me stranded. Well I got in it the other day to head to work and the the key would not turn far enough for it to start. This the day after we got the "speach" at work for being late, damn! I guess the rod that runs to the ignition switch is having some sort of a problem. It's been feeling a little "funny" the last few days but I put off working on it, my fault! That switch is a bear to get to.

Re: Never brag on your jeep...

The Jeep was trying to teach you a lesson:

1. Always carry a small piece of wire.
2. Wrap it around the wires on the starter realy, up on the fender
3. Turn the ignition switch to "Run."
4. Open the hood.
5. Use that little piece of wire to jumper 12 volts to the starter relay. This engages the relay and provides voltage to the starter.
6. Work the throttle mechanics by hand, starting the vehicle.
7. When the engine catches... remove the wire, turning off the starter.
8. Bragging Rights Restored!

Ok, now I do this with an automatic transmission in park and netural... You guys with a stick shift will have to throw it in netural, or have some one you TRUST disengage the clutch... I find this step fairly important... or the bragging rights are nullified.

Re: Never brag on your jeep...

Yes, I have to use that trick sometimes, when my Viper Alarm decides to arm itself sometimes. I bought the Jeep not even knowing it had an alarm until one day I was messing around and somehow armed it. It has an ignition cutout. For the next day or two I had to jump the ignition relay until I figured out how to use the valet switch to disarm it

Re: Never brag on your jeep...

That's a lesson learned many moons ago. Never brag on your vehicle! I know my jeeps are tempermental, and being tight with ol' Murphy and his friggin' laws doesn't help either. You've got to be nice to them, but don't make it so they can't meet your expectations, or they will become disheartened and fail you.

usually, they are the only two with big red wires coming off them. These should be the furthest left and right, respectably.
