charcoal evaporative cannister filter

1988 Wrangler 4.2/BBD ---Can anyone comment upon changing the filter on the charcoal evap. cannister which is mounted under the coolant and washer fluid containers ? My Jeep has 120,000 miles and I am trying to revitalize as much as I can . Is there a simple access route ? Part number to replace ? Can the filter be cleaned and re-used ? How is the cannister opened to get to the filter ?

Re: charcoal evaporative cannister filter

On some models it isn't meant to be changed, if it is the same as my Cj, you will have to unbolt the strap, and the filter is under the canister. I THINK I am remebering right. Not positive.

Re: charcoal evaporative cannister filter

you really dont have to change it.. its there for fumes.. so they will get the stink filtered out of them.. like your gas tank vent line goes to it.. so the charcoal filters out the smell of gas..
