Fuel Odour

Well the sun came out today so it's time for open air. Suddenly after the headache kicked in, I remembered a problem from last summer that I thought had gone away. My Jeep has a strong fuel odour when I'm driving but I don't smell anything under the hood if I just let it idle. I've checked the evap canister and it seems fine. Don't seem to have any leaks. I have made alot of carb adjustments to make it run smoother and more and now it also seems to be diesling alot. Any ideas how to get rid of the fumes?

Re: Fuel Odour

sounds like the old carter is flooding a little on acceleration or running really rich my suggestion is to thoroughly clean the outside of the carb let it dry and take it for a ride maybe the gaskets have dried out and leak a little under good pressure

Re: Fuel Odour

I did recently aadjust the metering rods to get rid of a bog I had on acceleration. I tried to re-adjust the mixture screws today but the idle just drops when I put them in. The rpm still increases when I back out the screws. How can I get it leaner without causing more drivability problems?

Re: Fuel Odour

other than having someone sit on the fender and adjust it while you drive (LOL) its pretty much a test and tune game

Re: Fuel Odour

Not a bad idea! There is a new use for that nice flat spot between the grill and bumper. It's a pretty good sized ledge, it should be safe enough. I've done dumber things for my friends to heop them out, now it's payback time..
