Scout or Waggie 44s?

What is total width of scout 44s and waggie 44s, i am not going to shorten them, so which would be the closest to my current axle width?

Re: Scout or Waggie 44s?

not sure about the scout but the waggie is only 4 inches wider so that would be 2 inches on each side

jeep the first 4 wheel drive the only 4 wheel drive

Re: Scout or Waggie 44s?

If you're looking to run them full width...the scout axle would be a better choice. They have a 5 on 5 a half lug pattern that
you'll need. The waggie axles are a bit wider but carry a 6 lug pattern. Both 44's (unless you have an 80's amc/jeep waggie).
The scout front d44 doesn't have the caster that you need with a CJ. Or you could mix and match. Change the 6 lug to 5
lug...the options are endless. Search this topic.

Re: Scout or Waggie 44s?

The Scout axles are 2" wider per side (4" overall) than the wide track axles. I'm running them, as are a few others on this board. Easy swap also, but no caster = sucky steering.

wagoneer front d44 have larger shafts.. than the scouts.. and the parts are cheaper.. even when you use cj parts instead of scout...

Re: Scout or Waggie 44s?

Round here, a 44 is a 44 and there isnt a difference other than length...I've got a stack of chevy's/scout/waggy axle shafts , and other than lenght they are the same dia...

Re: Scout or Waggie 44s?

well.. i dont know the exact diameter.. but.. ive got a d44 closed knuckle in the back yard.. and the shafts are in the shed.. they are d30 size.. SUX!
and the scouts are the same.. for me to convert that closed knuckle to disk.. i could use the d30 outers.. but i needed a scout outer shaft due to having the larger u-joint.. unlike the d30.. but.. cant use that d30 stuff with my waggy d44..

Re: Scout or Waggie 44s?

OK!! You got me there, I havent messed with the closed knuckle stuff...The ones I have seen are a little smaller in diameter, but the have also had a smaller spline count too!!
