Tires???

What tires would be better suited for a daily driver that sees a medium amount of highway travel and wheels on the weekends: Super Swamper TSL Radial, Baja Claw Radial, or Super Swamper Thornbird? Also if you have any experience with any of these tires please let me know how they performed off-road.

Re: Tires???

I've got Super Swamper TSL's and they're great in the mud, they throw mud everywhere instead of turning to mud donuts. I have about 10,000 miles on them now and they have about 70 percent left, just a guess though. Don't do much rock crawlin, yet, so can't tell ya about that.

Re: Tires???

Hey gigolo, how well do they wear on the road? I travel across N.C. about once a month and need a tire that also has good on road manners.

Re: Tires???

I also like the BFG Mud Terrain, but if you're willing to put up with slightly more noise for a lower price & a tire that lasts a little longer, look at the Cooper Discoverer STT.

As to the ones you mentioned, avoid the Thornbird. They seem to be pretty useless in just about any terrain & are as noisy as a bias-ply TSL on pavement (and TSL's are INFINITELY better off-road). No experience with the Radial TSL or Radial Claw, but I would go for the Radial TSL over the Radial Claw if mud is your obstacle.

Re: Tires???

Given that it is a daily driver, sees highway use, etc. I would go with the Goodyear MTR. These tires are awesome on the rocks and have good street manners and from what I hear are better in mud than the BFG's. Those MTR sidewalls are TOUGH in the rocks, almost as tough as bias ply swampers. I run BFG's now and they are great tires, but the MTR is better. The TSL radial would be a decent on road tire from what I hear, and would be better in deep mud than the BFG or the MTR but the sidewalls are only as tough as the BFG. If you do a lot of Muddin' get the TSL, if you play on rocks get the MTR.

Re: Tires???

Thanks for the info everyone. Looks like when the funds rise a little I'll be getting radial TSL's!
