New Source for oil. O/T

I know i shouldn't drink and think, but here goes. Well i was wondering with all the impending energy crisis and oil supplies running low talk. Why not use animal fat? I thought of this as i was washing a pan of grease from cooking. Since oil is a fossil fuel, i.e. old crushed/obliterated dinosaurs. And the animals we eat would end up the same route in thousands of years. What would be the possibility of this happening. I know this is pushing it, but i fried up a 2 pound package of chop meat and got hell of alot of grease from it. This would be a boom for cattle states, the vegetarians would hate it, but hey it might be a possiblity. I know I have fallen off the boat on this one.

Believe it or not, I once saw a TV piece about a guy who built a VW Bug to run on vegetable oil. He would get restaurants to give him used oil for fuel. It ran well but the reporter stated it smelled like french fries.

It's interesting, Tim, but the one I'm speaking of was a VW Bug and it was before 1997.....and the inventor(?) was from the Philadelphia area.

Re: New Source for oil. O/T

Whale oil used to be used in auto-trans fluid. but since it takes alot of whales to make enough oil for all the trannies, there are currently synthetic whale oils like "LubeGuard". matt

Re: New Source for oil. O/T

There was just a story in the madison paper last week about this guy that had put a small industrial diesel into his fat boy and converted it to run on soybean oil.
I also saw a bit on the news a few weeks ago about this real crunchy, energy conscious college program in CA(go figure). THey lived in this house that was totally of of the power grid, but they had things like a pedal powered TV. Anyway, They tooled around in a mercedes 300D that ran on recycled grease, like that bus did. Brendan
