89YJ Transmisison ID
How do I tell which tranny I have in my 89YJ?? It's a 5-speed (like all the others), hydraulic clutch, not sure what else to tell. Is there a tag or emblem on the side??

Thanks much.

Re: 89YJ Transmisison ID
If you have the 6 cylinder it is either the Peugeot or the ax-15. Hopefully, it is the ax-15. They are hard to tell apart. If you have a quadratrac mag, look in the back. It gives a photo of both. There is a seam in one and not the other. I can't remember which--I got rid of mine long time ago! :D

Re: 89YJ Transmisison ID
Actually they are real easy to see which you have. And yes the seam is how you do it. Sometime in the '89 model year is when they changed from the troublesome BA-10 to the AX-15. The BA-10 is split lengthwise down the middle on the bottom side of the transmission. It opens like a clamshell, and is about as strong as one. The AX-15 is split cross ways and is much stronger than the Pugeot.
