Pros/Cons of Springover lift and welded front diff
 
Just wanted to get some opinions on spring over lifts and welded diffs? Specifically I am going to look at a 92 YJ with both (lift and welded diff) and wonder if its worth my time. The rear diff has a lock rite locker but the front is welded. Is this going to cause major problems?

What are the pros/cons of spring over lifts? This won't be a daily driver but I would like some reliability/drivability. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

In the SW (I noticed you live in AZ) you are going to HATE a welded diff in front. Trying to turn on rock is bad enough with a locker, I would predict blown axle u-joints on rock with a welded diff. And if its a YJ it probably does't have locking hubs of a twin stick, so you can't even free the front end up momentarily and still retain low range.

One more vote against the welded front diff. I welded mine for lack of cash, and it SUCKS.

Front welded diff a pain: Maybe--Unless you can put a rock lock on the D30 front axle. Then you can disengage the passenger side front tire even in 4wd with a welded diff. Plus you'll get rid of that nagging vacuum disconnect. It is a YJ right? I have the rocklock and it works great.
The rock lock is around $190. The spring over is what most serious off roaders eventually go to. :D How much are they asking for the jeep?

One of two things will happen with a welded front diff in a '92:

1) You'll snap the 260X u-joints, which weak to being with.

2) You'll snap the axle disconnect system with it activated.

I won't even run it in the D44 front under the Scrambler, I shelled out the $240 for the Lockright.

spring over good if done right.
welded front diff bad.

a rear that has been welded correctly is good but a welded front won't allow you to fully steer. a buddy tried it with his dana44 front and it actually caused him to flip in one spot because he couldn't turn far enough.
