CA Smog Exempt County

Has anyone heard that in San Marino County vehicles are Smog Exempt??? Is that true? I heard osme guy at work talking to the boss about 5 minutes ago, about how his race car is street legal, with 650hp, and his 90 jeep with an old 350 is smog exempt because he lives in SM county...
interesting???

Thanks

Re: CA Smog Exempt County

I haven't heard anything about it but I find it hard to believe since smog rules and regulations are governed at the state (DMV) level, not at the county. Man I wish it was true, though. Damn smog teset is killing me right now.

Re: CA Smog Exempt County

The less populated (rural) areas have different requirements. I didn't know it was exempt, however.

Re: CA Smog Exempt County

The word Exempt is incorrect. All vehicles must be in Factory stock Smog condition. In the smog lower impact areas of the state, vehicles are not required to be smog checked if they are original california vehicles. if you bring a vehicle from out of state it will have to pass a one time smog certification requirement to be legal. if this vehicle moves to a high impact smog area it will need the smog every two years if 5 year or older to 1973. If the vehicle is a 1973 or older original California vehicle it is smog exempt in all areas of the state. If coming from out of state a one time smog is needed. This is why 1973 and older jeeps are more expensive in California ie basket case 1500.00 but it does not need smog.
