J-10 T-18 any good??

I have the oportunity of trading my t-5 for a J-10 t-18 transmission and I was wondering if this t-18 was good tranny to swap into my 82 CJ-7 and If this is a bolt on
swap.

Re: J-10 T-18 any good??

I just did this on Tuesday. In order to put that transmision in you truck, you will need to change the input shaft to either a ford or a jeep cj t18. If your going to use the ford input shaft, you will need a new pilot bushing. Advanced adapter sells them. I'm not too sure about the bell housing, but I had the t-150 trans that had the correct bolt pattern.

Re: J-10 T-18 any good??

YOU NEED A DIFFERENT X-FER CASE.. THE T-18 ONLY BOLTS TO A DANA 20.. YOU HAVE A DANA 300oops.. sorry bout the caps...
the j-10 t-18 fits fine into a cj-7 as is...jeepgod has it and it gives plenty of driveshaft left...

Re: J-10 T-18 any good??

Well the t-18 is installed on a 74 CJ-5, but it has the J-10
tcase and it has a spacer between the tranny and the bellhousing. the owner told me he got the jeep that way and dont know anything on the swap. Also I was checking the
off-road writing about this tranny and I believe this one doesnt have the granny low. Is this true of I just didnt understood the explanation given on this page?
tks for answering my post

Re: J-10 T-18 any good??

the T18 MIGHT be bolted to a dana 300, since J20 trucks used them 81-83 or so.

but if it dos it will have a long adapter between tranny and Tcase.

and the spacer and bellhousing your talking about will fit in a CJ7 but not in a CJ5.

it SHOULD be a granny low first gear, but MIGHT not be. you have to drive it, or turn the shfts and count to make sure.

either way its way better than a T5 if you have a serious engine or off road habit.

Re: J-10 T-18 any good??

if it came from a j10.. it has the granny gear.. and if it has the spacer infront of the tranny.. on the input shaft.. no worries.. will work great in a cj7 as is.. love my set up.. straight from a j10.. more than likely you will need a d20.. its cool.. about the same as a d300.. not quite as low of gears.. but still a real good transfer case..

Re: J-10 T-18 any good??

I don't believe any T18 from 1980 on came with the dana 300...I maybe wrong but from what I have read they came
with NP208's. If the t18 is from a 258 model it will bolt in with no input shaft modifications.
