Steering questio

I installed a waggy d44 uncut in my cj-5. I bought the factory waggy tie rod, which works fine, but I need to get somekind of custom drag link assembly that goes from my box to the tie rod. I bought the factory drag link for the waggy thinking that I was just going to cut it to length. The problem I see is that the tie rod end has a large hole, while my pitman arm has a small hole. Any idea how to get around this? Has anyone done a similar mod? What did you use? Thanks.

Re: Steering questio

youll have to ream that hole in your pitman arm out to 1&1/2 inch per foot taper ( like tha dana 44 knuckle) OR, have a custom rod built with 2 differnt sized rod ends ( bad option I think)

or you could use the waggy Pitman arm.

Im in the process of making a custom steering linkage too, it gets pretty damn costly wen you ad up the tools required to make one strong, the materials are nothing though.

Re: Steering questio

What about using a heim joint on the pitman arm side? Then I could just run a bolt through it. Will the Waggy arm bolt up to my steering box? Thanks ozark

Re: Steering questio

no heims in steering, do some searches, its a hot debate, IM on the rod end side myself, the ONLY benifit of using a HEIM is that it mounts on a non tapered hole, and since your hole is already tapered, then it isnt a probelm, nor will heim seat properly.

the wag arm will fit, you might need to grind a locating spline off though, I think Elusive, and JeepGoddess, er I mean JeepGod have done this.

no heims

If you want I can have your pitman arm reamed for the bigger size here locally, or I think I have another wag pitman arm.

Or I could even make you a whole new drag link, but I think it would be goofy to make it with 2 differnt sized rod ends.

IM making mine with the same rod end, at all 4 locations, and all ends are replcaeable $24, AND 7/8 18 tpi thread, BIG and strong.

Re: Steering questio

How much do you want for your extra waggy pitman arm?

Re: Steering questio

ok.. here is the "jeepgod".. damn it!!! ...
first.. no hiem joints.. they will wear out..
second.. you cant ream out that hole... there isnt enough metal around your existing hole for that option..
third... get a waggy pitman arm.. im using one.. but i have a waggy steering box.. not sure if they are different..
fourth.. take that drag link you have.. cut off the end.. then get yourself one of those adjuster clamp thingings.. that is on your tie rod.. and.. here is where your options vary.. a) cut it in half.. and pound a half on that drag link and weld it there.... and thread in a cj tie rod end that will fit your pitman arm.. (make sure the adjuster clamp thinging is for a cj) or thread the drag link and thread that thing on there..
the jeepgoddes.. ooops... jeepgod

Re: Steering questio

not really thinner.. but the end of the cj arm.. is like an inch in diameter.. with a hole drilled in it.. and the waggys... is like 1 1/2 inches.. since it uses a bigger hole.. dont forget..you need some wall there... to hold up....
