2 weeks....? Engine

I have about 2 weeks before my engine is shot (I know this because I went to the mechanic today and left the jeep and he checked everything.. gave it a few days.) How much for a reman 304? Or 360? Don.... how much was your reman 360? Let me know asap.

I think Qtec has them for something like 1800 bucks but i bet if you check around you can find a cheaper one. Make sure you also check there warranty.

Re: 2 weeks....? Engine

These guys have an online price quote thing.....looks like about $1700 for a reman 360.

Try these guys too:

Heres another one:

I just typed "remanufactured AMC 360" into yahoo.

Re: 2 weeks....? Engine

keep in mind though, they might not accept your 304 as a core for the 360, and they might charge a core fee, somtimes as much as $250 for not having a core engine to turn in.

also add to that cost a new timing cover ( your almost certainly going to need one), belts, hoses, thermostat, local hottank charge ( intake and other parts.)

it ads up, its not going to be cheap

Re: 2 weeks....? Engine

I suggest you fin dout for sure whats wrong with your 304, engines dont DIE right away, either its already hashed or its salvagable with SOME new parts.

Re: 2 weeks....? Engine

What did the mechanic tell you? Just that the engine has 2 weeks to live? That's BS. you can't put a lifetime on an engine, even a questionable one. My 304 ran on 7 cylinders for a year without me even knowing it. Find out what exactly mechanically physically is wrong, and fix it. If it takes a complete rebuild, do it. I found that its not worth the hassle to go 304 - 360, but 258 - 360 is better than 258-304. Yeah the 360 has more cubes, but you already HAVE the 304! Unless it threw a rod and the cylinder is trashed, or the block is cracked, its rebuildable. I took mine to a machine shop that didn't know diddly about AMC, but he could work his equipment, and I did all the leg work. Cost ~ $1400 for a complete performance 304
