Repairing crack in Hard Doors???????

I have a set of hard doors that have a 1" crack on the inside just behind the small vent window. The crack is all the way through and runs perpindicular to the window opening. I understand this is fairly common. I remember seeing a site that covered this repair a long time ago, but I didn't have any hard doors back then and of course I didn't bookmark the site. Does anyone have any info on repairing these cracks? What causes the door to crack right there? What will keep it from cracking again?

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Repairing crack in Hard Doors???????

That repair article is on our good friend, Larry Van Every's site.
His ORC BBS user's handle is LEVE as I remember.
I don't have the link at hand but maybe he will pipe in ....
... or do a search ... to find him or his very informative web site.

Re: Repairing crack in Hard Doors???????

Tom, just to reitterate, if you fix the crack then take time to fix the door alingment and the latching systems. That will help prevent the crack from forming again if the sill is not repalced. Also, on my many trips to the wrecking yards I've seen lots of doors with decorative panels that could be cut down, reformed and placed over a reinforced sill and you'll have a good looking door when you're done as well as one that works well.
