2 Alternators ?

Hello, I replaced a bad alternator last year with a re-build. Turns out the rebuild drained my battery while the engine was off (bad field circut in the regulator is it a bad diod ?). Anyway I just installed a brand new OEM alternator because I cant shell out the bucks for a hight output one right now. I Still have the old one (Lost the reciept) and was wondering if anyone has ever tried installing two alternators, maby the second one where a/c would be if I had it ? Just thinking about what would have to be done... Wire it in parralell with everything ?
Any ideas ?

Re: 2 Alternators ?

Lots of people istall a spare alternator that can be used as an on board welding unit to repair broken metal in the field, so there are brackets that are out there (can be bought at places like Jegs Performance) or be fabricated. Are you talking about using it for a charging circuit? That could be done but you would have to fix that bad regulator so it wouldn't drain your battery again.

Re: 2 Alternators ?

Yep, wire the second one up in parallel. That, or have it charging an entirely seperate system, i.e. another battery, and run accessories off that system. Sounds pretty cool, hummmmm...... I will have to think about this more!
