Currently I have a 95YJ with 2.5L and TF 904 Automatic tranny.
Eventually the day will come either I blow up the 2.5L or the cash tree grows enough for me to do a swap when I want.
I'm looking to go what I think would be the easier route of swaps since there are plenty of YJ's and TJ's in the junk yards with 4.0L in them.
I'm looking for info on what I'll need to perform this swap.
I know I will need the following:
Complete Engine w/ all wiring/ignition/injection etc..
Computer from same vehicle
4.0L Motor Mounts
TF 999 auto tranny hopefully from same vehicle (I'd like to stay auto)
Will this tranny bolt right up to my 231 transfer case w/o any adapters? I'm pretty sure the 4.0L uses the same case.
Are the trannys the same length or would I need to change where the transfer case bolts to the frame and have to change drive shafts also?
Will any 4.0L from 95+ YJ and TJ's work for this swap? It would be nice to find a newer wrecked TJ to be the donor for a low miledge engine / transmission if it would work with minimal pain.
Has anyone here done this swap or has everyone just gone V8 instead? I'd prefer to just go to the 4.0 since it's easy to find, much nicer than the 2.5, and doesn't have TOO much torque to worry about busting my dana 35 and 30 into pieces.
