TJ flairs on a CJ

How hard is it to fit TJ flairs on a CJ-7, I've wanted to make this upgrade, and was wondering what the differences between those and the stock ones?

Re: TJ flairs on a CJ

The front TJ flares would need to be shortened a couple of inches I think and you'ld need to do a gooddeal of trimming of the rear quarters. The TJ opennings are quite a bit bigger. My brother's '68 Comando has TJ flares on the back and CJ on the front because the TJ flares just don't work well.

Re: TJ flairs on a CJ

check out Samsoffroad.com Their cj has a set of tj flares that are cut and cut again. Looks very sharp. I plan on doing the same thing once i find a set of flares cheap enough.

Sam's looks good. Are there any write ups on what he did?

I bought a set new from the dealer, but the tech write up on this website did not show a very clean set up. So I am not sure how I am going to do it.

CJ-8, 4.0, NP435, D44 x D60, ARB's, 4w Disc, 2"YJ springs, SOA, 1" Body lift, 38.5" TSL SX

CJ-6, Cherokee

Re: TJ flairs on a CJ

I did my on a glass tub so only so much of this may be of any use to you. This first pic shows how I cut the fenders to fit the inner lip of the flares. The grey is a filler we used to make sure the flares fit flat to the fender without any gaps. Fill, file, fill, file till everything fit.

Shot of the finished jeep with the flares installed. If you've got any questions give me a shout. I'll be happy to answer what I can.
