I Bought It !!!!

Here's what I bought,79 CJ5 Renegade silver anniversary Edtion.Went back and looked at it again today and found that its frame has some rot on the last 14 inches on the drivers side on the inside. The tub is rusty thats the bad part. The good part is that when I put my spare starter in and dumped some gas in it,IT FIRED RIGHT UP!!!!!I drove it up and down the driveway and everything worked but a couple of lights! The plow works great, the transfer case shifts easy, the clutch is tired but that is expected. The engine doesn't smoke at all even after sitting 5 months! The body parts that are good, the nose is rust free, factory top has only slight surface rust, lenses and trim is all in good shape. The windshield frame might be salvagable can't tell yet.Think $350 is a good deal for all this!!Now I have to give my 65 to the 15 yr old kid down the street so he can become an addict too.I'll just have to work him this summer helping me clear my lot some more.To bad I can't get the Jeep home in time for the big storm tonight.
More fun stuff to work on!

Re: I Bought It !!!!

Nice new jeep, I'd take your 65 off your hands, or have anything else sitting in your yard, I'll take it. Nice find, I hope to find something like that this summer.

Re: I Bought It !!!!

Hey Andy,I dont think you want the 65 cause thats in a lot worse shape then the one I just picked up.I bought the 79 just so that I would have good parts interchangability between the Jeeps that I'm driving, not somthing totally diffrent like the 65 is.I can say other than fouling plugs I didn't have any problems with it in three winters.

Re: I Bought It !!!!

What was unique about the Silver Aniversary CJ's? besides the silver paint and striping.
I've got a '79 CJ5, was originally silver paint, but has been re-shot.
Just curious if it could have possibly been the aniversary model.
I've run the VIN on it. Factory T18a behind the 258. Don't know if the VIN would specify aniversary edition or if you would have to relate it to the production number.
It's not to easy to find much info on this aniversary edition CJ.

Re: I Bought It !!!!

I don't know what was special about it,it's just what the guy said it was.Doesn't make much differance to me,I'm just going to take the good stuff off it and plow snow with it for now. This spring I may take the drive train out of it and put it in my CJ7,haven't decided yet.Wish I had it home sure could use it to plow the 16 Plus inches of snow, guess I'll have to use the 65.

Re: I Bought It !!!!

Sounds like a heck of a deal to me. The only thing better that finding a great deal, is finding a great deal on a running jeep! Good luck on your new toy.

Re: I Bought It !!!!

The 65 died this morning with either a regulator or generator problem,so I took the day off and went to get it.Drove it home 22 miles,no tags ran great no problems! Now all I have to do is swap plow frames and I should be all set for the rest of the winter.
