2000 TJ Mod\'s

Ok, I'm the new kid on the block and so it's time to start modifying my 2000 TJ. I would like some input and suggestions as to manufactures of such things as winches, front and rear bumpers, suspension lift kits (nothing extreme 2" -3" lift) I won't be doing any serious rock crawling, but I will be off roading about 25% of the time. I would like to keep good road handling manors if at all possible.

I was wondering if it was a good idea to have the TJ rust proofed? I live in the North East.

So I would really like some input from you veterans of the off road world.

I also would like to say that I really appreciate all the responses I've been getting from all of you regarding my what may seem stupid questions concerning off roading Thank to all

There are no stupid questions regarding wheeling. We all had to start somewhere, and we have all had the same questions at one time or another.

I have found that the TJ is very rust resistant. At 85K, 4 winters with lots of road salt and gravel, tons of wheeling, and rock chips, our TJ still has not even showed a hint of rusting. We do wash it regularly, and not just the outside. I concentrate mainly on the underneath and the little cracks that can hold dirt. It's the main reason the Scrambler rusted out. I don't know if I'd coat it, just keep it washed down. We had an old Scout II that was "rust proofed" every 2 years, and it still rusted out in 8 years.

Teraflex or Rubicon Express are pretty much the lifts of choice for TJ's. Bumpers are everywhere in all shapes and sizes, look at Olympic's rock bumpers- probably the heaviest bumpers for a good price. Thought about skid plates yet?
