Help, I can\'t stop!

Out of the blue, last night on my way home from work, I lost my brakes. Well not totally. If I depress on the petal hard I have brakes for a minute, but the go steadly to the floor. If I just ease on the petal, no brakes at all! There are no ruptured lines and the resovior is full. Could this be a bad master cylinder?

Re: Help, I can\'t stop!

If both sides of the reservior are still full, then that would tell me the master cylinder is toast.

Yep, bad master. It'll never get better, time to rebuild or better yet, replace.

Re: Help, I can\'t stop!

I just replaced one in my wife's '96 suburban.....it had to be the easiest cheapest car repair I've done. I bought a reman'd master for $32 plus a quart of brake fluid and it took about an hour including going the parts store and bleeding all four brakes. I usually haven't been so lucky.
