pics of cut fenders on a cj

This is my brother in laws cj with 38's, 4in springs and some shackle lift. He has been wanting me to cut the fenders for a while now and i finally did it for him. I need the practice for mine. The job went pretty easy with no problems. Now i just need to find some 4in tj flares (if anyone has a set please let me no.) so i can cut mine.

Re: pics of cut fenders on a cj

I am not really sure what they were. When he bought the jeep they were already on it. They looked like the ones jeep used on the yj renagade. Here is a pic of what they looked like but it is not a great one.

Re: pics of cut fenders on a cj

They are made by Bushwacker. Really stiff right? A guy I knew in college messed up a cherry '84 CJ7 w/ built 304 and T18. Put on a 3" body lift, no suspension lift, 33" Mikey Thompson Baja Tires(rubbed awful), and those flares smoothed into the body. Looked real funny. The first time he took it off-road after that he pushed a tire into the fender and all of that smoothing was for naught. Broke the 2 front flares, had to repaint, repair, resmooth, etc. etc.

What is he doing for side marker lamps? I didn't see any, and was wondering if he is legal?

Re: pics of cut fenders on a cj

He is kinda legal. He has all the paper work and a sticker but no lift sticker. He got through the back door of a private inspection place right before jersey really made it hard (thanks to Whitman). On the side markers we are going to do one of two things. I may french in a small side marker in the hood or we may do something inside the tube of the bumper. I dont like the bumper idea because ever time he hits the end of the bumper with something the cover on the tube comes off or breaks off. He has about 8 months left until inspection so we have a little bit of time.

Re: pics of cut fenders on a cj

Have you thought about placing it behind the front tire on the fender? Lots of newer vehicles are placing theirs at this point. Wouldn't need to french it in or anything, could even just use a standard CJ/YJ side marker lamp and just bolt it to the fender. Or for a different look get some of those LED lamps(maybe even choose the shape).
