AMC 20 / Open up brake backing plate for bearings

Is it possible to safely modify the amc 20's brake backing plate so that I can pull the 1 piece axles out without removing the brake backing plate and bleeding the brakes? Won't the retainer with the outer seal on it retain the bearings?

This is with Moser 1 pce axles using Timkin bearings.

It is not supposed to work like that. I know because I had a backing plate that someone had modified and my Moser's wouldn't install correctly without a replacement backing plate. I wouldn't trust the outer seal to hold my axles in even though it has that metal plate in it.

I'm with Tom on this one. Better sfe than sorry. I wouldn't trust just the seal.
