Found another engine donor

Well, due to a request by my younger brother to use my 5.0 Mustang motor for a project that he and a buddy are working on in So Cal. I have been recently looking for another potential donor. It seems that their project, a Track Racing Mustang needs a built motor, suspiciousely like the motor I have been funding, that my brother has been building for me. So in the spirit of brotherly love, I have agreed to sell them/him my motor for the money I have into it(on payments no less), and I have deferred his butt kicking until the next time I see him, rather than actually seeking him out, across state lines, and doing it now.
However, that had left me without a donor for my upcoming swap....Until today that is. A freind told me of a guy who needed to sell his Mustang project donor here in town,(kinda poetic justice since I lost my engine to a Stang project). So I picked up a 90 Lincoln Mark VII, with a Ford 5.0 HO and 83K miles today for $500. Im back in buisness. I started pulling the motor out this afternoon, in the parking lot of my apartment, I should be able to yank it out with a forklift on the jobsite tomorrow. The only difference I can see with this engine and the stang is, I think the EFI manifold faces the other way.
Anyway all the parts are now in place, so it looks like the swap will be taking place now over the next few weeks.

Re: Found another engine donor

Since you are doing an engine swap, Why not keep it Jeep. I have riden in 5.0 Mustangs, and even though they are fast cars, torque is not there strong point. An AMC 360, with aftermarket FI would cost about the same as a 5.0 swap, and make a lot more torque. Sorry Jeff, But I can not tell a lie. LOL.

Thanks Ray

Re: Found another engine donor

Id rather use the Ford Mass air EFI, for its reliability and plentifull parts. The 5.0 will generate more than enough torque with the 180:1 gear ratio Ill be running. I want to be able to use my NP435 tranny because of its durability and low range. The 5.0 runs on any angle, runs cool, and maintains good oil pressure to the engine even on extreme angles.
I want to be able to keep it smog legal also. I dont believe their is an aftermarket EFI for the 360 that is smoggable in Ca.
This isnt a knee jerk impulse swap, I have been researching different engines for this swap for over a year. In my opinion for what I need it is the best swap. Other than using a pinch of financial common sense, cost was not an issue.

Re: Found another engine donor

At least it is better than a Chevy swap, and this is coming from a Chevy fan, but I just prefer the torque of an AMC engine. I do see your point, but I bet it will still be a smog nitemare. If you are geared right, you can still rockcrawl with a 5 horse B and S.
