carter vs holley

My recent acquisition (83 cj7 258) has a holley carburetor that I think is supposed to be an upgrade over the carter. Is it pretty much the same carb, just a replacement? Do the tips on this forum apply etc? I'm having the typical idle problems and want to know if I can use the great tips from here to apply to it?

Thanks in advance

Re: carter vs holley

Is it a Holley carburetor on you motor? Can you give us some numbers off it? Is it a 2bbl 2300 series marked 4412? Help us to identify this carb.

If you are able to pull the numbers off of it, the Holley tech's are more then happy to tell you what it is. Just go to their website, and tell them the numbers, they'll get right back to you.

Re: carter vs holley

On further inspection, the carb looks identical to a carter, but has a remanufactured by Holley. So, I guess it is a carter rebuild.

Re: carter vs holley

Holley rebuilds carbuetors of many different brands. As no new autos are being built with carbs, fewer rebuilders are out there.
