fan clearance

greetings everyone
i recently began serious build up of my cj. one of the first things was to replace the water pump because someone put the wrong one on. anywhooo, i replaced the radiator b/c it needed it badly. i went with a 3 row b/c i felt it was prudent. there is less clearance between the fan and my $200 radiator. this problem was not addressed by the guy who sold me the water tank or the manufacturer. is this going to be critical? any comments or preventive measures?
thanks

Re: fan clearance

You either have to get the CORRECT 3 row rad with an off set like Brad (CJCreeperjeeper) did or you have to find a shorter fan shaft like I did because I didn't ...

Re: fan clearance

Re: fan clearance

I read on another board that someone relocated their radiator to the front of the core support and gained some extra clearance. When I did a 4.0L swap to my 1982 CJ-7 I ended up with only 1/2" clearance between the fan clutch and radiator core. My radiator was only 6 months old and I didn't have the money for a new one so I tried the relocation trick and now have 1" clearance. This summer will tell if I have any cooling problems as I don't have a shroud and I don't think one would fit very well now anyway. What ever you do address the problem now or you will need a new radiator sooner than you think.
