Pulled myself out today!

Next to my house is a field. In said field is a ditch. On my way home from work (in the CJ) I decided to screw around. So I'm straddling the ditch, when it gets to wide and I fall in. No biggy. But when I turned to climb out, the driver's front went up, and eventually so did the driver's rear. Being in my current 2wd situation and an open rear, I was stuck. Period. It's really nerve racking when all your neighbors are driving by and giving you the "evil eye." So...I ran the entire 100' to my garage, and fired up the ZJ. As I dropped it in 4-lo and was positioning myself for the tow strap, one of my neighbor's pulls up. Which one? The cop. In his cruiser, lights flashing. He gets out and says, "What are you doing, jackass?" Luckily, we're friends and both officers of the homeowner's association. I say, "What's it look like? I'm pulling myself out!" So he hops in my ZJ while I pilot the CJ and the rest is history.

Re: Pulled myself out today!

I wish I had a camera, I got the TJ stuck in a ditch at work, just like you describe. No going forwards or back. So having no other vehicle, I went and hauled out the John Deere 855 lawntractor, and commenced to haul it out. Well, I put the TJ in neutral and hauled on it with the tractor. The only way it'd come out was with the tractors front tires off the ground, then the weight of that diesel would slowly move the TJ backwards. Doing this a few times got the Tj back on at least 3. The tractor was hydrostatic, so balancing it on the rear 2 was easy, probably looked funny as hell with the front axle 3' in the air.

Re: Pulled myself out today!

I can say that I have been stuck in my yard a few times.... ( I probably shouldn't be telling everyone...)

I think I have been stuck about 3 times now in my own back yard. Either I was high centered on something or whatever. I just walk up to the house and grab my TJ with the winch or if I have my winches working on the CJ I can either winch forward or back.

I love having a front and back winch!
