found a pair of dana 44\'s for $400..to much?!?

I was out visiting the local yards today trying to line up some spring projects. I came across on those BIG piles of axles...I'm talking
every kind of axle you could think of!! It's one the greatest things I've ever seen. Anyway, I found a scout rear 44 and a jeep wagoneer
front end (flat top knuckles too!!) He told me $400 for the pair. Does this seem like a decent price? The front end should have
the knuckles on it that I want as well as the right spindle to use with ford rotors. Thanks for the input.

Re: found a pair of dana 44\'s for $400..to much?!?

A little, I just bought a pair of Dana 44's off of a scout at a 4x4 salvage yard for $100 a piece. But the front needed to be completly rebuilt from the Ball joints out at a cost of about $500. The rear needed just brakes for about $150. Don't forget about the cost to fix them!

How did you spend 500 for the Ball joints out.
Even 150 for rear brakes is pretty steep.

BTW $400 isnt too bad for a pair of D44 in good shape. I bought my last front D44 from a Grand Waggy for $125, in good shape, but it seems like prices have been rising lately.

you have to assume you will totally rebuild everything on both axles, so be sure and figure that in.

Ive bought them from $25 each, to $200 each, so it just depends.

Id keep looking unless your really in a bind for them right now

I bought my Scout rear here (Denver)for $100; Waggie front was $175. Thee is another yard here that sells any axle for around $60.00. The problem is Scout and waggie axles don't last very long there. Jeepers strip them as fast as they come in.

Hey I'm looking at a set of Scout axles as well. I can't seem to find the wheel to wheel width for the Scout II.
Does anybody have this number floating around in their head?

If no one posts it before I get home, I'll post the dimensions. The axles don't sound that bad to me, especialy for the front, but I'd look for a D60 rear and see if he can keep the price the same.

New ball joints, u-joints, rotors, calipers, bearings, and replacing the auto hubs with premium warn units for the front. And of course the rear brakes including new drums. At least they are done now and resting under my 69 cj-5

The one in my garage came out of 79 Scout II; measures 59" from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface.
