CJ-7

OK, Im hoping to get a CJ-7 in the future.
What is a good year for the CJ-7?
Also what mods should I do to make it more trail worthy.
Oh, it also needs to be street legal.

I read an article here where Dave Barker installed TJ flares on his CJ-7 and ran 35" tires and gets the better performance with 35" tires than with 33".

Are 35" tires overkill for for a jeep being all terrain?

Hey......your profile doesn't say anything! How do we know you aren't a spy for the "Roadless Conspiracy" Eco-Nazis, and trying to zero in on who is going to do what next? When you look for a CJ-7, it's pretty simple...........look at the tail end of each frame rail. If you can stick your finger through the thin, rusted out material; it's not the right one to buy. You know, of course, that 1979 was the last year for the Vee Eight engine and the last year for the TH400 automatics, so if you had it in mind to push a slush, you gotta go '79 or older. If you buy a late CJ-7.....up to 1986, you can drop in a late model fuel injected 4.0 six out of a Cherokee or a TJ. Of course you can also drop in a Cummins Diesel if you add a second front axle.
