possible truck purchase

I am considering buying a truck and selling my wrangler (I still will have the CJ though). I realize this is a SWB Jeep board, but it seems like everyone knows a lot about other vehicles too. I was wondering what you guys would recommend for a truck. I want a 4x4, extended cab, v-8, shortbed, and don't want to spend more than $13,000. I was thinking of a 94 or newer dodge ram. Does anyone have advice on what to buy, ford, chevy, dodge??

Re: possible truck purchase

I'm also looking to buy an extended cab to replace the F150 I have. Ford has been making the extended cab with a full bench seat for years, so there are plenty used trucks to choose from. I think '88 was the first year for fuel injection. I'd like to buy a '96 F250 Super Cab short box with a 460 and auto, but I think finances are going to dictate something older. The '94 and up Dodges around here cost more than Ford or GM.

Seems to me there were a few problems with the new model Dodge. I don't remember when they came out, was it '94? Didn't they have a lot of problems with the trannies?

Re: possible truck purchase

My buddy works for the dodge truck plant here. He has bought a new truck almost every year since 95 and everyone he has had small problems with. Nothing ever major but stuff like: engine, axle seals leaking, speakers just stop working, windows leak, ect.. just piddly stuff that would really tick me off if, I dumped all that money.. It seems mostly fit and finish problems, not desinging problems
