I've researched all of the spring over Scout Dana 44 articles and etc. What about spring under on a CJ? Time is of the essence right now and I'd like to put the springs under for now. Rear isn't a problem but, if I use the stock perch on the front pig, will the drivers side stick out too far?? Input appreciated!!!
Yes, it will. To utilize this axle you have two choices. You can use the passenger side perch like it is and cut the long side of the axle down to bring the wheel back in. The axle is approximately three inches too long. The second choice is to center the axle under your jeep and fabricate spring hangers to weld to your frame, moving the springs outboard of the frame. a couple of links that might help:
I am using a waggie 44 for the front of my CJ. It's going to be cut down three inches on the long side; this will give me a front axle 58 1/4"; my rear will be Scout 44 uncut, it measures 59". I found a machinist who narrows axles; he will cut and weld yoke, cut and respline two axleshafts all for $115.
