tj with auto and 4.56s

I was in need of a new axle for a tj, and I found one with 4.56 gears and arb locker, but the guy who has it said he would not recomend 4.56 with a auto? do you know why?
any help would be apreciated.

Re: tj with auto and 4.56s

4.56 would be great with an auto ..if you are running 40 inch tires.. any smaller and you'll only be able to go about 50 mph because the gears will be causing your RPM to skyrocket.. i have 4.10's in my tow rig with an auto, and i haver to keep 35's on it so I can do 65... my trail ride has 4.56's and 35's, and it does about 55

Re: tj with auto and 4.56s

Then why does my 1995 Isuzu Trooper with the auto come stock with 4.56 gears? It cruises great, and I have no problems cruising at 85 mph, although I'll never admit it in court.

Re: tj with auto and 4.56s

unless i am mistaken(often) the 95 trooper came with either 4.10's or 4.30 gears, with the 4.30 being with the trac-loc...maybe only rodeos though...
its the same reason toyotas run 4.56's...the engines are designed to run at a lot higher rpm.

Re: tj with auto and 4.56s

Nope, definitely 4.56's, that must be in the Rodeo's. Also, my Trooper does turn up, 2,700 RPM's at 65 mph. It also has the 4L30E tranny, which is OD, but so is the TJ's.
