Emissions Testing in Texas?

Howdy to any Texans out there! What's the scoop on the emissions testing there? I haven't lived in Texas for 10 years, and they didn't test back then! Is there an under-hood visual inspection now as well?

I plan to leave my YJ in TX with my Dad while I'm overseas for the next 3 years, and I've got concerns about passing emissions there since I've put my Weber on and disconnected the EGR valve. Pulse air system is still hooked up, though. Everything else is stock, so will it pass? What am I in for?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Emissions Testing in Texas?

I am in Austin, Texas and there isn't any emmissions check at this point. They do a visual inspection of the exhaust system and they will not pass you if your system has holes or leaks but they do not physically test the emmissions. I think they do complete testing in some counties around Houston and Dallas.

Re: Emissions Testing in Texas?

In major cities they do a tail pipe test for emissions. If you pull your spark plugs and they are a nice light ash brown you will probably pass ok. They are supposed to do a visual under the hood for vehicles newer than 25yrs. old but most places just glance and say allright looks good.
