1/4 ellipitical springs

i was wondering if i could make some 1/4 ellipitcal springs, i know they are not made by just chopping a normal leaf in half, but could i make them this way? Has anybody tired this?

Re: 1/4 ellipitical springs

There was a write-up on a TTC competitor that made his own 1/4 system out of junkyard leaf packs. Tomorrow I'll dig through my magazines and scan and post it here for ya

was it the yellow cj7? i remember reading that(thats where i got my idea), but i can't find the issue. i think the current issue of 4wheel and off-road has a write up on the same guy but with a new jeep(tube frame)

You can blow this image up to a width of over 1000 pixels to make it easier to read. It details what springs were used and how he modified them. BTW: This is Grady McLeod's Willys from a TTC a few years back...

thanks a ton, any idea if the airbags are neccesary or if he just used them for increased lift?

Go to the jeepgod.com page. He and his buddy made thier own and detail the process. And yes they use old springs and cut them. Very cheap and very responsive.

Re: 1/4 ellipitical springs

the airbags are not needed, they just allow him to push the rear axle down to get off a high-center, or he can pump up just one to help level the Jeep and prevent (delay?) a roll.

I went to Jeepgod.com again and didn't see anything about a 1/4 elliptical set-up. Just the shackle-reversal and spring-over-axle write-ups again.
