258 mods and TR upgrade

I'm doing the TR upgrade and at the parts store they keep offering me a can type coil the parts guys at the local Checker and AutoZone say I'm nuts when I ask for a TFI coil.

Where can I get one?

Also I'm want to remove my emissions or Pulse air what can I remove or should remove? Any diagrams or pics?

What are any other good performance mods for my 1988 258 I6? (Doing Nutter bypass also)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Viper

I also had a hard time getting the right coil. Their listings called for a can type coil; when I said "with eec" they stared blankly and again offered the can coil; finally I grabbed the book and leafed through it until I found the E-core application for late model ford trucks. This was at NAPA, part number is IC24. Perhaps with that number you can go to NAPA or have more luck cross-referencing the number at Checker or Autozone.

Re: 258 mods and TR upgrade

Ask for the coil for any late '80 Ford car. That will be the correct coil.
Some of the Ford trucks didn't use the TFI coil until like '89 and I don't know why.

Don't rely on the store geeks for anything. Most of them don't have a brain, and they certainly can't get a grip on anything that the computer doesn't tell them.

If you happen to stumble onto a counter guy that knows what he's doing (more rare than beautiful, mute women that own a liquor store and muscle car dealership), then ask for that guy every time you go in.
