258 Questions

I'm doing the TR upgrade and at the parts store they keep offering me a can type coil the parts guys at the local Checker and AutoZone say I'm nuts when I ask for a TFI coil.

Where can I get one?

Also I'm want to remove my emissions or Pulse air what can I remove or should remove? Any diagrams or pics?

What are any other good performance mods for my 1988 258 I6? (Doing Nutter bypass also)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 258 Questions

A good performance upgrade is the 4.0 L head swap. Its where you swap the head from a 4.0L jeep engine in place of your 4.2L one.A lot of guys also put in a fuel injection system with this swap. This website discusses the swap in great detail and has a lot of other great stuff about the 258 engine; www.monsterslayer.com/jeep/. If your having trouble doing the TR upgrade you could do the Gm hei ignition upgrade. I did have a link to a good website byt I lost it, I'm sure somebody else has one though.Another one is getting rid of your Carter bbd carb(piece of #%$^). the weber is the best way to go if you have the money, if not the next best thing is to swap a motorcraft 2100 carb on. It is realiable, doesn't have a stepper motor, and from what I have heard will run on its side. DO a search on this stuff, you will find a great deal of info.

I need to get a girlfriend I'm getting to close to my jeep.

Re: 258 Questions

on the pulse air tubes to the air filter canister- depends on your local smog inspection. i disconnected mine and mounted on the firewall with small filters attached. it is described in this site:
