Re: Pics of the \"New\" 63 CJ-5

some small spots next to the tail lights... about a half dollar.. and there is a crack on the passenger side where the spare tire should be mounted up..
has the 3 speed.. i could sure use the 4 speed tho.. top speed is about 50 mph..
everything is solid.. even the floors.. frame is sweet.. all the way.. looks like somebody did a part resto job on her some years ago.. and never finished.. it wasnt the guy i bought it from.. and he is over seas.. so i cant ask him anything..

That sure is nice looking. '63, that's got to be close to the beginning for CJ5's?

Re: Pics of the \"New\" 63 CJ-5

I am glad that i don't have the only 63 CJ5 on the board. Is definately in better condition than mine was. When i get mine back together i will post a pick. I noticed you have the little round tubes welded to the rear corners of the jeep mine has them also. Do you know what they are for?? I have been trying to think what they are for. i did notice that they have bronxe bushings in them. I sanded the top down when doing body work and noticed that they were bronze. I never knew what they were, but kind of think they may have been a swing out tire carrier. since it is bronze it may have been a pivot. Jeep looks good. Now you need to put the V6 in like i have. Bummer is the 50 MPH speed.
Enjoy her

Re: Pics of the \"New\" 63 CJ-5

My CJ-2A has the tubes too, no bushings though. I think it was a willys SWB thing, my best guess was that they were supports for an original soft top bow or something. Or they could be mounts for the .50 cal BMG on the swing away rack...
