Setting up ring and pinion

I wonder if there are any of you in the VA, DC, MD area that knows how to set up ring and pinion. My buddy and I will need to regear and we'd like to learn how to do it. I read the procedure for a Jaguar rear end and I assume it should be similar for most diffs. I'll get the Jeep FSM but it's one thing to read it and another to actually see and do it. I'd like to be able to do most everything myself if possible. Not to say save some bucks. '91 YJ, D30,35c. 3.07

Re: Setting up ring and pinion

i live in south-eastern PA, and set up gears at work, (4x4 shop) in wrightsville, pa. but i don't have time do any on the side.
also, don't assume all ring and pinions are set up the same, there are different preloads and backlash between models and some manufactures of the same gear set are even different, (and used gears and/or bearings are set-up differently also)

one thing is the same between all, you need to get the pinion depth and preload, and carrier backlash and pattern correct or you going to have problems
