Propane delivery on a 2.5L: Carb vs TBI vs MPI?

I found a CJ-3a for cheap because the body isn't too good and there is no motor (minor problems, right?) I'd like to run a 2.5L in it that runs off propane. I can get get a carbed, TBI, or MPI 2.5L all at the same junkyard, with computers where applicable. Is any one delivery system better than another when it comes to delivery propane? Also, what type of company make propane fuel cells?

Really doesn't matter, all you use out of the fuel delivery system is the throttle body anyway.
I've been known to take the top off the carb, and only use the throttle body plate.

The Throttle Body from a TBI setup from a pickup, like an S-10, should be just fine.

Unless you intend to make it a multifuel engine...

Well, this would be in a flat-fender so I want to use the stock gas tank under the driver's seat for gasoline, and run a propane take under the bed like the Wrangler's fuel cell.

So...now would a carb be better than EFI? Would a carbed propane system run upside down?

To get a big propane tank go to either and RV shop or a boat place, not just a place that sells prats but also works on them, they should be able to help you find a tank that's the right size and if not get one custom made for you.

We always disconnect the computer, and use a second ignition module when do the propane thing with fuel injection.
A dual ignition system like CJ Dave has is perfect for such an application where you have to disable the computer when using propane.

I don't see why a carb wouldn't do the job, unless you have a problem with carbs....

A propane vehicle WILL NOT run upside down, unless you disable the safety gadgets.
There is a 'no oil pressure' kill (engine dies, propane stops), an inertia kill (when you hit something), and a 30 degree of tilt switch usually.
You may also want to use double safety shutoffs on the key operated switch. (Redundancy)

PS, a propane vehicle is exempt from most emissions testing in most states... But only if the original gas tank is removed....
There are some very reasonably priced Compressed Natural Gas systems on the market right now, and most CNG is cheaper than LP.

Both are VERY corrosive.

Re: Propane delivery on a 2.5L: Carb vs TBI vs MPI?

Dan Stew- yes it is the one in the Bargain Trader- check out the pics of the military vehichle I put up- its at the bottom and there isn't enough body to save. There is also no gas tank so running ONLY propane wouldn't bother me a bit anymore. Of course if I ran Natural Gas I could get it piped to the house and just fill it up at home . I had heard that running propane would extend engine life since it was such a clean-burning fuel. What corrosive properties do they have? What is the difference in a Propane or Natural Gas system?
