Driveline help

Okay, here is my problem to be fixed:

I bought a Jeep, 1986 CJ-7, with a SOA. From what I can tell, it was done wrong for the way it is set up. The driveshaft is a straight driveshaft (non-CV). The rear differential is pointing "up" at the tranny and the tranny is pointing straight out of the engine line (anywhere from 15-30 degrees mismatch, hard to tell). What is a better solution, have the spring perches rewelded to put the differential input and tranny output parallel, or to try a new driveshaft? I noticed that when I bought the Jeep, the U-joints were brand spanking new, and I asked the prior owner about that. He had just replaced them because they were chewed up, but did not know why. I think it was because of driveshaft wrap. What are your solutions here?

Thanks,

Re: Driveline help

Howdy stranger!! Been wondering why I haven't seen that beast moving. CV-jointed rear driveshaft is the way to go. There's a driveshaft place up just off of Butterfield west of 59 in the little industrial park just before the underpass...Midwest Driveshaft is the name if memory serves. Barring that, you'd need to bring the pinion back down parallel with the t-case output and put in a t-case drop, which is obviously less desireable.

Re: Driveline help

Thanks!

I will go with the CV driveshaft, saves me the trouble of trying to figure out where to get the axle welded. Any idea how much a CV runs?
