Which d60 front axle

Which front d60 has the best shafts in stock form? I know some have 30 splines and some possibly more - what is the best find to start with? I don't care which side the pumpkin is on as I am sure I will have to retube anyway.

my front 60 has 35 spline, it's from a chevy 1 ton...specifically a military truck...bolts right into a cj too..

Re: Which d60 front axle

Come on now Chris, a bolt in Dana 60? It might bolt in with outboarded springs or relocated spring perches. What about the steering?

Re: Which d60 front axle

the spring perches are the right width..i just put the sucker in! you have to go spring over, but it truely bolts in. the steering needs to be fabricated a bit though...and i hope you like WWWIIIIDDDEEE.......
remember, the dana 60 has a spring perch cast into the housing of the diff..thats how they get away with it.. because of this, i also got about 1.5" of lift too.

Re: Which d60 front axle

Wider is better - or so they say on the telly - Uh how wide is wwwiiidddee? What year was your donor chevy? I will gladly go wider - make it easier to put outrageous fat tall tires on. Or - with 35 spline axles I can get the thing cut and resplined without getting the high$$$ aftermarket stuff.

Re: Which d60 front axle

elusive don't forget you are running a tj frame. they (if they are like the yj's) are wider in the front than cj frames.

Re: Which d60 front axle

BA.. the yj/tj frames are the same width.. i thought the cj was about the same in the front also.. just different in the back.

Re: Which d60 front axle

ya.. the yj/tj frames are 4" wider in the front.. you dont have to go outboard with the spring hangers.. like you do with the cj's..

Re: Which d60 front axle

chris, that is why it bolted in. it would bolt in for me too but that is because i have my springs outboarded. the stock cj could not just bolt one in though.
