special fluid needed for detroit?

do I need any special lubricant for the detroit locker in my AMC 20? I bought the axle a while back and am now going to fill it so I wanted to make sure if I needed special lubricant I would add it now.

Re: special fluid needed for detroit?

The Detroit does not need any special fluid. My friend likes to put in a bottle of STP when installing new gears and Detroits. I'm going to put in a couple of bottles of Lucas Oil Treatment when I change the fuild in my Detroited diffs. I'm running it in the motor, tranny and t-case now. I'm really starting to like that stuff! Got mine at Nappa.

i will say.. they like plenty of gear oil.. 80/90 weight stuff.. and it shouldnt be the kind for the limited slip.. just plain ole gear lube.. you gotta love those kinds of lockers..
