lube for the ignition lock

When its cold my ignition switch is real stiff. I figure its had some kind of lube sprayed in it that is stiffning as it gets cold. Any ideas on what to put in it?

Re: lube for the ignition lock

Look for graphite powder. I put that in all my door locks before winter, and I don't have any problems with them freezing.

Re: lube for the ignition lock

You didn't say which vehicle this is in so I'll assume it's the 79 CJ. I have never had to lube the lock cylinder on any of my Jeeps, but I have experienced several GM style lock cylinders that get stiff when the pins/springs start to come apart. When one or more come apart and the vehicle is running you won't be able to turn it off. My suggestion is to replace the lock cylinder before this happens. I have also noticed that the lock cylinders in Jeeps seem to get loose enough that the key can be removed without shutting the unit off.
