Vacuum motor

Since the front axle on my YJ won't engage I decided to remove the vacuum pump to see if that was the problem. Well, the motor didn't move much when I tried to slide the fork. When I turned it over I noticed something come out of the the tube. I then proceeded to get about a spoon or two of rust or dirt from the vacuum motor. Has anyone had this happen? Is the motor still usable? The local Jeep dealer wants $140 for a new vacuum motor.

Re: Vacuum motor

Don't pay $140 for a new one..For a few dollars more, you should go with that cable disconnect system. It is much more reliable than the vacuum system. I just called the boneyard out here and those motors are $45 used...You do the math.

Re: Vacuum motor

I found one in the Four Wheel Drive Hardware, www.4wd.com, catalog for $34.95. I'm going to take the catalog to the dealer with me tonight and point this out. I'm wondering if they will give me a better deal.
Was the price the junkyard quoted you for the vacuum motor alone or for the entire disconnect assembly including the vacuum motor?

Re: Vacuum motor

It was for the whole assy.
If all you need is the motor, then I would just order it from the catolog. You can always get overnight shipping if time is an issue.
